Me & Andy (aka Stephen Tompkins and Andy Warhol)

Wow. Speechless. I've loved Warhol's work since I was a boy growing up in Cleveland so this is both an honor and a surreal event for me to show my work alongside of Warhol's in a group exhibition at Hilger Modern Contemporary in Vienna. The show is entitled 'Comics Make Art - Art Makes Comics' (english translation) and opens June 21st running through July 29th. Hope you will go. Special thanks to Ernst Hilger and Katrin Dworczak.

Stephen Tompkins Modern Luxury Riviera Magazine Feature Arts & Power Issue article

In Living Color!: Stephen Tompkins

Oceanside-based artist Stephen Tompkins is on the move. Literally. Fresh off showing his brilliantly chaotic canvases at MCASD’s “Here Not There?,” Tompkins heads to Miami for this month’s Art Basel and then to shows in Berlin, Vienna and Singapore.
Next up? An animated film collaboration with avant-garde jazz legend John Zorn and an iPhone app that combines dreamt-up comic characters. This month he shows at Luis de Jesus gallery in LA. For Tompkins, who once was an extra in David Lynch's My Son My Son What Have Ye Done?, mutli-tasking comes easy.
"I don't throw my work to the wind," he says, "but I also don't want to control everything. Control is an illusion."

"In Living Color!: Stephen Tompkins" was included in Riviera San Diego's Arts & Power feature.
